God is
no respecter of person—all are beloved in His eyes. Is your character displayed
in that same way, “to the least of these”?
August’s Awakening, Day 1
Small kindnesses, small courtesies,
small considerations, habitually practiced in our social intercourse, give a
greater charm to the character than the display of great talents and
accomplishments.
—Mary Ann Kelty
The true measure of a man is how he
treats someone who can do him absolutely no good.
—Ann Landers
“The
King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of
these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’ Matthew
25:40 NIV
Maybe
the truest measure of your character is how you treat and interact with those
of the lowest standing in society and even the outcasts. Do you see God’s
beloved child or do you see their status and social standing and net fiscal
worth? Take a long, deep, introspective look and answer that question honestly.
That is your true character, shown to the least of God’s beloved children. If
your introspection reveals anything less than exemplary, then regardless of how
your character may appear to some people, it is desperately ill and needs
attention. All are equally loved and valuable in God’s eyes and He expects and
demands that you extend that same attitude and mindset to everyone too.
Exemplary character displayed only to the elite or those you are familiar with
or have no aversion to is truly no character at all.
