Defined by Our Thoughts

You have already become the sum essence of your thoughts. Be careful what you think.

August’s Awakening, Day 12

The release of atom power has changed everything except our way of thinking . . . the solution to this problem lies in the heart of mankind. If only I had known, I should have become a watchmaker.

 —Albert Einstein

You are not what you think you are. What you think, you are.

All that we are is the result of what we have thought.

 —Buddha

For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account. Hebrews 4:12–13 NIV

Then Simeon blessed them and said to Mary, his mother: “This child is destined to cause the falling and rising of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be spoken against, so that the thoughts of many hearts will be revealed. And a sword will pierce your own soul too.” Luke 2:34–35 NIV

Be very careful what you think, for your thoughts define you. You and God are the only entities who know your every thought. Things you may have forgotten have not escaped the mind of God. As for yourself, amnesia could be a most wonderful thing. Yet even forgetting does not fully erase the effects that the thoughts have already impacted on yourself. The neurochemical pathways are there, even if hard to retrace. Each thought indelibly creates a change in what your mind now is. It is impossible for the scientific genius who devised a way to release the tremendous power of the atom to renege those thoughts and exchange them for the thoughts of the watchmaker. You have already become your thoughts. Be careful what you think. For that is what you have already become until the next new thought.
