Noble character is sacrificial for the
well-being of others. Is your character willing to endure for others, like Paul
endured to bring Christ’s message?
August’s
Awakening, Day 4
We never know how much one loves till
we know how much he is willing to endure and suffer for us; and it is the
suffering element that measures love. The characters that are great must, of
necessity, be characters that shall be willing, patient and strong to endure
for others. To hold our nature in the willing service of another is the divine
idea of manhood, of the human character.
—Henry Ward Beecher
Happiness is not the end of life; character
is.
—Henry Ward Beecher
We
put no stumbling block in anyone’s path, so that our ministry will not be
discredited. Rather, as servants of God we commend ourselves in every way: in
great endurance; in troubles, hardships and distresses; in beatings,
imprisonments and riots; in hard work, sleepless nights and hunger; in purity,
understanding, patience and kindness; in the Holy Spirit and in sincere love;
in truthful speech and in the power of God; with weapons of righteousness in
the right hand and in the left; through glory and dishonor, bad report and good
report; genuine, yet regarded as impostors; known, yet regarded as unknown; dying,
and yet we live on; beaten, and yet not killed; sorrowful, yet always
rejoicing; poor, yet making many rich; having nothing, and yet possessing
everything. 2 Corinthians 6:3–10 NIV
We
looked at the above Scripture recently when discussing patience, but it is even
more pertinent here as we look at our character interacting with the needs and
well-being of others. It is one thing to be patient with self, quite another to
sacrificially endure for others. Yet,
that is the noblest of character, when Christ completely shines through.
Character is enduring patiently, persistently, caringly, and understandingly
towards others in their times of turmoil and despair. It is making yourself
available as the beacon of light and hope, the strong tower of refuge, the
mighty fortress, and the paradise of calm through all the chaos.
Does
your character pass the nobility test? Winners in life end with the noblest of
character.
