You cannot
see without illumination. You cannot fully understand the Scriptures without
His illumination. Pray that the Holy Spirit would open your eyes to His truth.
September’s Awakening, Day 9
The
Spirit breathes upon the Word,
And
brings the truth to sight.
—William Cowper
True discrimination between right and
wrong does not then depend on the acuteness of our intelligence, but on the
wisdom of the Spirit.
—John Calvin
All
Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and
training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly
equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 3:16–17 NIV
For
prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human,
spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit. 2 Peter
1:21 NIV
But
when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He
will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell
you what is yet to come. John 16:13 NIV
God’s
Word is alive and vibrant, made especially so by the Holy Spirit’s illumination
upon the written Word. The Holy Spirit inspired the authors of the Bible to
write precisely what God wanted them to write. He is our counselor, our
teacher, the One who illuminates and enlightens the Scriptures and all the
spiritual realities within the fabric of our existence. He is the Spirit of
Truth, and understanding the Scriptures without His illumination brings only a
superficial understanding. The Holy Spirit is the One who brings the Scriptures
to life and allows each verse to connect with your heart and soul and speak
deeply and personally to you. If the Scriptures are not alive, then you must
seek His guidance and wisdom and pray that the eyes of your heart would be
opened.
