Is your
spirit still sleeping? Do you not sense His beckoning call? Are you oblivious
to His attempts to get your attention? It’s time to be awakened by the Spirit.
September’s Awakening, Day 8
Ephesians 5:18 is not just an
experience to be enjoyed but a command to be obeyed. If we do not open
ourselves to a daily encounter with the Holy Spirit, then the inevitable
conclusion is that we are disobedient Christians.
—Dwight L. Moody
The renewal of our natures is a work
of great importance. It is not to be done in a day. We have not only a new
house to build up, but an old one to pull down.
—George Whitefield
The Holy Spirit of grace desires to
disturb your sleep. Blessed are you if you awaken.
—Lars Linderot
For
you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of
light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and
truth) and find out what pleases the Lord. Have nothing to do with the
fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them. Do not get drunk on wine,
which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one
another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from
your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything,
in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Ephesians 5:8–11, 18–20 NIV
Is your spirit sensitive to the Holy
Spirit and awakened when He prompts you, or are you sleeping and oblivious to
His beckoning call? If you are not encountering the Spirit frequently
throughout the day, then your spirit is sleeping and oblivious. He has much
work to do and needs you to be attentive and obedient. The old self must
continually decrease and the new self must exponentially increase. The indwelling
Holy Spirit desires to produce within you the fruit of the Spirit of Galatians
5:22–23: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
gentleness, and self-control. Transformation is a lifelong process in both
aspects—tearing down the old house and building up the new. Listen, be
attentive, be cooperative, be obedient, and let the Spirit awaken you.
