God is closest when life’s its
darkest. When all seems lost, hope is still there, just grab His hand.
September’s
Awakening, Day 6
There is a deep peace that grows out
of illness and loneliness and a sense of failure. God cannot get close when
everything is delightful. He seems to need these darker hours, these
empty-hearted hours, to mean the most to people.
—Frank C. Laubach
Having the
answers is not essential to living. What is essential is the sense of God’s
presence during dark seasons of questioning.
—Ravi
Zacharias
We can stand
affliction better than we can prosperity, for in prosperity we forget God.
—D. L. Moody
I am not a
theologian or a scholar, but I am very aware of the fact that pain is necessary
to all of us. In my own life, I think I can honestly say that out of the
deepest pain has come the strongest conviction of the presence of God and the
love of God.
—Elisabeth
Elliot
I
will be glad and rejoice in your love, for you saw my affliction and knew the
anguish of my soul. Psalm 31:7 NIV
We
cry out to God for help in our deepest, darkest moments, and surely, He is
always there to bring His comfort and peace. We tend, as humans, to do
that—seek Him diligently when we need Him most. But wouldn’t it be nice if we
were always that close? Wouldn’t it be nice if His presence was always powerful
and felt strongly within us? We would be prepared for anything whenever it
arose. That is the deep, unwavering spiritual connection that we are striving
for. Rely on Him as if every moment is your deepest and darkest.
