The Spirit
is within you to bring about transformation, but also to empower you to be the
vessel that God can use to benefit believers and bring the message of salvation
through Christ.
September’s Awakening, Day 10
The Holy Ghost has called me by the Gospel,
and illuminated me with His gifts, and sanctified and preserved me in the true
faith.
—Martin Luther
When led of the Spirit, the child of
God must be as ready to wait as to go, as prepared to be silent as to speak.
—Lewis
Sperry Chafer
The Holy Spirit is the secret of the
power in my life. All I have to do is surrender my life to Him.
—Kathryn Kuhlman
But
you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my
witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the
earth.” Acts 1:8 NIV
because
our gospel came to you not simply with words but also with power, with the Holy
Spirit and deep conviction. You know how we lived among you for your sake. 1 Thessalonians 1:5 NIV
As
we’ve seen, the indwelling work of
the Holy Spirit is that which is essential for the believer’s personal growth
and well-being—the assurance of salvation, producing the fruit of the Spirit,
and personal transformation and spiritual growth. By contrast, the empowering work of the Holy Spirit is
that which empowers the believer to be God’s most effective tool and envoy to
both believers and nonbelievers alike. The empowering Holy Spirit delivers our
spiritual gifts, calls us into service, guides and directs and prompts us to
spread the Gospel and build up the body of believers. So, the indwelling work
of the Spirit is distinctly for our personal benefit, while the empowering work
of the Spirit in us is more to benefit and aid others. Both workings of the
Holy Spirit are essential in the believer’s life to produce the vessel God
desires and can extensively use to promote His kingdom. You must allow and
embrace both working aspects of the Spirit to be the complete and mature
believer that God wants you to be. You are indwelt by the Spirit and empowered
by the Spirit—embrace all aspects of the Spirit and allow Him to complete the
fullness of His work.
