With maturity will come perseverance
and consistency—the cement that bonds your noble character together.
July’s
Awakening, Day 4
All
things are possible to him who believes, yet more to him who hopes, more still
to him who loves, and most of all to him who practices and perseveres in these
three virtues.
—Brother Lawrence
Perseverance
is the sister of patience, the daughter of constancy, the friend of peace, the
cementer of friendships, the bond of harmony and the bulwark of holiness.
—Bernard of Clairvaux
Let us not become weary in doing good,
for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Galatians 6:9 NIV
You
have persevered and have endured hardships for my name, and have not grown
weary. Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To
the one who is victorious, I will give the right to eat from the tree of life,
which is in the paradise of God. Revelation 2:3, 7 NIV
Perseverance is the cement that
bonds together your character and makes it consistent, reliable, persistent,
and unwavering. It is easy to be patient for a moment or trust for a moment or
have faith for a moment, but maturity in perseverance allows you to walk in
that noble character moment after moment. That’s maturity—consistency—day in
and day out. It’s all about persevering in your beliefs, your hope, your love
for God and others, in your patient endurance, and your faith and trust in Him.
For those who persevere to the end, God has special blessings here and more
rewards waiting in heaven. Do not become weary or give up, but continue
consistently onward and persevere.
