Choosing
Christ means choosing a life consecrated and dedicated to the service and
worship of Him. Are you determinedly and diligently following through on your
choice?
July’s Awakening, Day 8
We are consecrated and dedicated to
God; therefore, we may not hereafter think, speak, meditate or do anything but
with a view to his glory. We are God's; to him, therefore, let us live and die.
—John Calvin
Anything that dims my vision for
Christ, or takes away my taste for Bible study, or cramps me in my prayer life,
or makes Christian work difficult, is wrong for me; and I must, as a Christian,
turn away from it.
—J. Wilbur Chapman
you
also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy
priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus
Christ. But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s
special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out
of darkness into his wonderful light. 1 Peter 2:5, 9 NIV
Salvation through faith in Jesus
Christ is a free gift, but it’s certainly not a free ride. When we choose Christ,
we also choose to be committed, consecrated, and dedicated to Him. To be
consecrated or sanctified in Christ has the same basic meaning as in the Old
Testament observance of the Law, the priesthood, and sacrifices unto the Lord.
It means to make and declare one’s self or something as ceremonially clean,
separated and set apart from common life or common use, and wholly dedicated
for service or worship unto the Lord. When we choose Christ, we are no longer our
own, but now His—consecrated unto His service. That’s why we are called
“saints,” for we are holy ones, sanctified ones, now dedicated unto the worship
and service of Him. So, believer, that is who you now are and what you’ve
chosen to be. It’s time to live your
calling—a consecrated and sanctified life wholly committed and dedicated to
Christ.
