Is your
love for God in constant, active display? If not, your spiritual health is
struggling.
February’s Awakening, Day 5
Love is not
a feeling but a determined act of will, which always results in determined acts
of self giving. Love is the willing, joyful desire to put the welfare of others
above our own.
—John MacArthur
Every Christian would agree that a man’s
spiritual health is exactly proportional to his love for God.
—C. S.
Lewis
To love God is the greatest of virtues; to be
loved by God is the greatest of blessings.
—Portuguese
proverb
And now, Israel, what does the Lord your
God ask of you but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him, to
love him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your
soul, and to observe the Lord’s commands and decrees that I am giving you today
for your own good? Deuteronomy 10:12–13 NIV
No, the Father himself loves you because
you have loved me and have believed that I came from God. I came from the
Father and entered the world; now I am leaving the world and going back to the
Father.” John 16:27–28 NIV
To love God means to
put into action all that the Bible tells us to do and to exercise that love in
meaningful ways mirroring Christ’s display of His love for us on the Cross.
Love for God is a reverent fear or awe of His holiness and who He is. It is
walking in obedience to His Word, His will, and His ways. It is serving Him
with all that you are, inside and out. It is heeding His voice and observing
and following His directives for your life. Love for Him must be active and
alive, vibrant in its display towards Him and all others, and in giving of
yourself freely and completely without expectation of receiving as a return. If
you love God like that, your spiritual health meter is reading excellent. If
loving God is a constant struggle, then your spiritual growth, health, and
well-being will be struggling too.
