Spirituality
and Christian character must be constantly cultivated to become worthy and
honoring of Christ. Never be satisfied with where you're at, but always strive
to be "becoming."
July's Message, Day 20:
An elder must be blameless, faithful to his wife, a
man whose children believe and are not open to the charge of being wild and
disobedient. Since an overseer manages God’s household, he must be
blameless—not overbearing, not quick-tempered, not given to drunkenness, not
violent, not pursuing dishonest gain. Rather, he must be hospitable, one who
loves what is good, who is self-controlled, upright, holy and disciplined. He
must hold firmly to the trustworthy message as it has been taught, so that he
can encourage others by sound doctrine and refute those who oppose it. Titus 1:6-9 NIV
Again in
this Scripture we see the characteristics of the elder, deacon, overseer, or
bishop, any and all, in leadership and ministry positions. This is of course
the ideal for all of us to strive for and a checklist to live by. If we are
lacking in any of these areas, it would be of great benefit to focus on those
areas so that we may, in fact, become the mature Christian leader that is
worthy and honoring of Christ. Do not sell yourself short and yearn to be the
best for God that you can be. These characteristics must be cultivated and
strengthened on a regular basis. Do not be complacent and believe that you have
"arrived" and nothing more needs to be done. Spirituality and
character are ongoing processes that need constant attention, nurturing, and
growth. You must be constantly becoming.
