Your Mind’s Paintbrush

If people don’t like to be around you, then maybe you need to change the paintbrush of your mind and color the canvas with a whole new set of attitudes.

August’s Awakening, Day 15

I have no secret. You haven’t learned life’s lesson very well if you haven’t noticed that you can give the tone or color, or decide the reaction you want of people in advance. It’s unbelievably simple. If you want them to smile, smile first. If you want them to take an interest in you, take an interest in them first. If you want to make them nervous, become nervous yourself. If you want them to shout and raise their voices, raise yours and shout. If you want them to strike you, strike first. It’s as simple as that. People will treat you like you treat them. It’s no secret. Look about you. You can prove it with the next person you meet.

 —Winston Churchill

A happy person is not a person in a certain set of circumstances, but rather a person with a certain set of attitudes.

 —Hugh Downs
Attitude is the mind’s paintbrush, it can color any situation.

 —Author Unknown

You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness. Ephesians 4:22–24 NIV

Your certain set of attitudes is surely the paintbrush of your mind and most certainly will color the canvas of every situation. You cannot control all the circumstances, but you assuredly have full control over how you address and maneuver through each situation and every personal interaction. Furthermore, you can proactively and anticipatorily produce desired responses in others by your initiated positive attitudes. Smile first, say hello, positively display your body language, keep a calm and clear voice, a peaceful demeanor, be visually and auditorily attentive and engaged, with a true genuineness—all this will go a long way to making every event and encounter a positive experience both for you and those around you.

If you grumble, murmur, groan, and complain, then expect to get that in return. It all begins with the paintbrush in your mind and your certain set of attitudes.
