Hearts Full of Love

A heart and mind full of His love or a destitute heart and mind longing for His love—which one describes you?

February’s Awakening, Day 7

To approach God requires neither art nor science, but only a heart resolutely determined to apply itself to nothing but Him, or for His sake, and to love Him only.

 —Brother Lawrence

The nearer we draw to God in our love for him, the more we are united together by love for our neighbor; and the greater our union with our neighbor, the greater is our union with God.

 —Dorotheos of Gaza

Love to God is armor of proof against error. For want of hearts full of love, men have heads full of error; unholy opinions are for want of holy affections.

 —Thomas Watson

Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” Matthew 22:37–40 NIV

Timothy, guard what has been entrusted to your care. Turn away from godless chatter and the opposing ideas of what is falsely called knowledge, which some have professed and in so doing have departed from the faith. Grace be with you all. 1 Timothy 6:20–21 NIV

For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. 2 Corinthians 10:3–5 NIV

It is critical for your heart and mind to be in perfect and complete harmony and agreement. You cannot have a heart and mind divided. If your mind is saturated with the world, then it is far from God and your heart will shun His love too. Likewise, if your heart is stubborn and walls out His love, then your mind will block out His truth also. You will suffer emotionally, mentally, and spiritually if you have a dichotomy of allegiance to Him between your heart and mind. Your heart will never be satisfied with the superficial love this world provides and your mind will always be searching and never at peace. Your only hope and the only answer is a unified heart and mind devoted to Him.
