Persevere for the Crown

Kudos or crowns, which will be your reward? You’re running to hand the winning baton to Him.

July’s Awakening, Day 6

Most of the important things in the world have been accomplished by people who have kept on trying when there seemed to be no help at all.

 —Dale Carnegie

Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful individuals with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.

 —Calvin Coolidge

Great works are performed, not by strength, but by perseverance; yonder palace was raised by single stones, yet you see its height and spaciousness. He that shall walk with vigor three hours a day, will pass in seven years a space equal to the circumference of the globe.

 —Samuel Johnson

As you know, we count as blessed those who have persevered. You have heard of Job’s perseverance and have seen what the Lord finally brought about. The Lord is full of compassion and mercy. James 5:11 NIV

Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him. James 1:12 NIV

Crowns don’t come easy, nor are they divvied out to everyone, especially crowns that come from the King. If you want to be successful and exemplary in the eyes of the King and wear a crown given to you by Him, then perseverance in the face of trials and standing firm through the tests of this life, all because you love Him, is what it will take. We’re not running this marathon of life to receive kudos and accolades from the world. We’re running for Christ and to receive a crown from Him. Can you image anything more significant, with the greatest sense of accomplishment, than walking around heaven for eternity wearing a crown? Are the attaboys all you’re striving for? It’s about Him and running the race to win, bringing as many people as you can with you, showing yourself approved, overcoming and persevering through it all to the very end. Your crown and the King are waiting.
