Wisdom’s Source

God is the supreme source of all wisdom, not self or the world. Are you being wise in your own eyes or applying godly wisdom from the source above?

March’s Awakening, Day 19

The more accurately we search into the human mind, the stronger traces we everywhere find of the wisdom of him who made it.

 —Edmund Burke

Should it be said that the Greeks discovered philosophy by human wisdom, I reply that I find the Scriptures declare all wisdom to be a divine gift.

 —Clement of Rome

You can’t access wisdom by the megabyte. Wisdom is concerned with how we relate to people, to the world, and to God.

 —Edmund P. Clowney

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow his precepts have good understanding. To him belongs eternal praise. Psalm 111:10 NIV

Do not deceive yourselves. If any of you think you are wise by the standards of this age, you should become “fools” so that you may become wise. For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in God’s sight. As it is written: “He catches the wise in their craftiness” and again, “The Lord knows that the thoughts of the wise are futile.”

1 Corinthians 3:18–20 NIV

For it is written: “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise; the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate.” Where is the wise person? Where is the teacher of the law? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe. Jews demand signs and Greeks look for wisdom, but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. For the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength. 1 Corinthians 1:19–25 NIV

In our quest to become spiritually mature and ever connected to God, we must assimilate as much knowledge of God and His Word that we can.  Hopefully, that knowledge will then be applied and used appropriately to help guide and direct our choices and our lives. The more we can be in the presence of God, the more His wisdom can be imparted to us. We can glean wisdom through our life experiences, but that can oftentimes be tedious and painful.  If we listen intently to what He speaks to us, study His Word, and be obedient to that, we can circumvent many a poor choice and live a much more peaceful life. It takes humility to realize that being wise in our own eyes or the eyes of the world, simply means we are rolling the dice and hoping for a good outcome. Oftentimes, we will find ourselves floundering about and wondering how we ended up where we are. God’s ways are higher that our ways and God’s wisdom is supreme. Never rely on self or world when you’ve got the Source just a prayer away.
