Be
indispensable. Be available. Be the one.
December’s Awakening, Day 5
Please, put
aside all excuses and ask yourself, “What should I be doing?” Yes, you alone
can make a difference. The question is,
will you?
—Charles
Swindoll, “Day by Day”
I am only one, but still I am one. I
cannot do everything, but still I can do something; I will not refuse to do the
something I can do.
—Helen
Keller
He
replied, “I have been very zealous for the Lord God Almighty. The Israelites
have rejected your covenant, torn down your altars, and put your prophets to
death with the sword. I am the only one left, and now they are trying to kill
me too.” The Lord said to him, “…Yet I reserve seven thousand in Israel—all
whose knees have not bowed down to Baal and whose mouths have not kissed him.” 1 Kings
19:14, 15a, 18 NIV
In the kingdom of God, one is
powerful indeed. God just needs the availability of one to start a chain
reaction of positive life-changing events and to see His mighty hand move. You
don’t think one can make a difference? Tell that to Noah, tell that to Joseph,
tell that to Moses, tell that to Esther, tell that to Daniel, tell that to
Nehemiah—and the biblical list goes on—speaking of the power of the
availability of one to save multitudes and bring about reform. One in God’s
hand becomes exponentially infinite.
When you stand as one you may feel
as if you’re alone and the only and the last. Elijah felt that way too,
battling evil king Ahab and queen Jezebel and the prophets of the pagan god
Baal. Yet God told Elijah that he indeed was not alone in his stand against
evil—seven thousand had God protected and preserved in the concerted effort to
fight against this evil. When you stand as one for God in the name of God, rest
assured that God has a protected multitude standing with you. You just need to
be available. You just need to stand as one and let God unleash the rest.
